7 Muay Thai Gym is strategically located in Chakphong (Rayong), a small beach village in the center of Thailand. An unpolluted and quite place without tourists, the perfect place for nature lovers, only 200 km away from Bangkok and 100 km from Pattaya (the camp can easily organize trips to both cities). For whom this isn’t enough, here some options which can be easily reached from the Muay Thai camp.
The beautiful island of Koh Samet
We can spot Koh Samet from the beach nearby the camp and it can be reached with a short boat ride, perfect for a Sunday getaway or even 1 night sleepover.
The island is a National Park, which offers both big and well served beaches, as well as more remote and tiny coves.
Samet island is also known for its unique nightlife where tourists merge with locals on the many beach clubs.
Koh Chang - The elephant Island
It’s the 3rd biggest island in Thailand, but with much less mass tourism than the two main islands (Phuket, Koh Samui).
It’s ideal for a weekend getaway as it’s reachable on wheels (200km from the camp) and it has all the services of a big island that it is.
Koh Chang offers a wide range of natural attractions from the white beaches on the west side, to the mangrove forest on the east side, as well as multiple waterfalls in the outback.
Pattaya city
The city that doesn’t need introductions is just a short one hour taxi ride. The perfect place to experience Thai nightlife in the famous Walking Street or to see the most popular touristic destinations.
Bangkok metropolis
Big shopping malls, high class nightlife, temples, markets and breathtaking skyscrapers, you name it.
Bangkok is arguably the best city in the world and it’s only a couple hours away from the camp.
Khao Chamao waterfalls
Delve into the nature of this park, famous for its waterfalls which create wide natural pools, perfect to dive into.
Swimming in company of local fishes is an unforgettable experience. The park is located 45 minutes away from the camp.
The region chief town: Rayong
If you have enough of the pool and the beaches, the biggest Central Plaza in Thailand is just 25 minutes away, as well as Passione Shopping Destination or the Star market. If shopping is not your thing, Rayong City is worth a visit if you are interested to see how the Thai working class lives, which differs quite a bit from Bangkok.
Local Thai legends
The legend says that once in a lifetime, Thai people need to come in Rayong province.
In the area near the camp the statues that represent the legend of Phra Aphai Mani, a epic poem written by the most famous Thai poet Sunthorn Phu.
The legend also talks about the story of Prince Aphai Mani and his strange loves with 4 women: the giantess sea, the mermaid, the oriental princess Suvarnamali and the western princess Laweng. We can find statues of these four figures located in different places in the area, as well (full story).
